As a first step towards the formation of the European College of Poultry Veterinary Science (ECPVS), an initial Interim Credentials Committee was nominated during a first meeting on May 25, 2005 in Boxmeer, the Netherlands, and amended on January 17, 2006 in Brussels, Belgium. This Committee consisted of 11 persons with a strong reputation in the field of poultry veterinary science and which are considered specialists at least in their own country (Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom).
The initial Interim Credentials Committee selected 6 initial founding Diplomates to apply for provisional recognition at the European Board of Veterinary Specialisation (EBVS) and to become the initial Invited Specialists of the College.
EBVS granted provisional recognition to ECPVS in February 2008. The College's constitution was officially registered in December 2008.
ECPVS acquired its full accreditation during the EBVS meeting of April 2018
